ESI Registration is mandatory compliance under the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948. Establishments employing 10 or more employees (in most notified areas) with wages up to ₹21,000 per month must register with the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
ESI is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme providing medical care, sickness benefits, maternity benefits, disablement and dependants’ benefits. On registration you receive a 17-digit Employer Code; each covered employee gets an Insurance Number (IP). Contributions (employer 3.25% + employee 0.75% of gross wages) and returns are due by the 15th of the following month.
